BRITISH RED CROSS SOCIETY,
14, GROSVENOR CRESCENT,
LONDON, S.W.1.
24th August, 1938.
sir,
65
I beg to acknowledge with thanks the receipt of your
letter dated 19th August (Ref. No. F 8855/309/10) forwarding a
message from Dr. Robert Lim received through His Majesty's
Ambassador in Chi na enquiring whether the British Red Cross
Society can help by supplying some alternative specific
against maggot to the present one used by the Chinese Red
Cross viz., 10% solution of salt.
His Excellency the Ambassador will be aware that the
greater part of the efforts and work of the British Red Cross
Society in the China conflict is provided through the Lord
Mayor's Fund for the Relief of Distress in China. I have been
in touch with the medical members of my own Committee and of
the Lord Mayor's Committee, and I am informed that the
alternative to the saline solution which would best meet
Dr. Lim's needs is aqua flavine.
In response, therefore, to Lord Halifax's request I
am making arrangements with the Lord Mayor's Fund for the
Relief of Distress in China to have forwarded to His Excellency
the Ambassador a supply of aqua flavine. As you are aware
His Excellency presides over the Committee in China which
acts for the Lord Mayor's Fund. I assure you that every
effort will be made to expedite the consignment.
I am, etc.
To The Under-Secretary of State,
Foreign Office.
(Signed) Arthur Stanley.
Chairman Executive Committee.
